Port Innovation for the Green Transition

Ports are uniquely positioned to become enablers of the decarbonisation of multiple sectors. As critical nodes in global supply chains, they act as hubs for innovation, infrastructure development, and regulatory change, which are essential for advancing cleaner energy sources and technologies and green fuels. Their strategic influence spans not only maritime shipping but also the energy systems that power vessels, cargo operations, the logistics ecosystem, and the full range of industries located in and around the ports.

The SMU Maritime Thought Leadership Conference will explore how ports, through targeted innovations in port services, infrastructure, and the wider port ecosystem, can drive the green transition to meet global climate goals.

The conference will be organised into two focused sessions:

1. Stakeholder Views: The Port Ecosystem

This session will provide perspectives from key stakeholders to discuss their expectations and challenges in the green transition and the role that ports may play in addressing them. The session will foster dialogue on how ports can work together with key stakeholders to co-create systainable solutions, optimise supply chains, and invest in renewable energy technologies and green fuels.

2. Regional Pathways to Maritime and Port Decarbonisation: The Role of Digitalisation, Innovation, and Workforce Transformation

The second session will explore how different regions; Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America are integrating digitalisation and workforce strategies to accelerate maritime decarbonisation in ports and the wider maritime business ecosystem.
